In result of Arctic air settling over southern Ontario, majority of the region has been dumped in a deep freeze, which is anticipated to bring wind chills as low as -35. Consequently, Environment Canada has issued subsequent warnings and appealed people to limit their exposure to the cold and try to take precautions when they head outdoors.

Therefore, Toronto is also anticipated to receive downed temperature as low as -20 C, which could even dive down to -30 due to frigid wind chills overnight. Moreover, the wind chill is expected to further worsen and bring the temperature further down to -33 for the next day. As a result, Toronto has been kept under a wind chill warning issued by Environment Canada and an extreme cold weather alert issued by the city. To keep the homeless people warm, Metro Hall has been converted into a warming centre for people who need a warm place to stay.

On the other hand, the cold weather has also caused problems again for the TTC’s fleet of aging streetcars. Consequently, customers are anticipated to face longer than normal wait times on all streetcar routes as a result of weather-related equipment malfunctions. Meanwhile, shuttle buses have been brought in to supplement streetcar service. Apart from that, flights to and from Toronto airport have been delayed or cancelled, prompting an appeal from officials at Pearson airport advising passengers to confirm their flight status before heading to the airport. Similar problems are arising south of the border due to identical weather, icy temperatures and snow.
