Towards the end of his iconic trip of Israel, Prime Minister Stephen Harper visited several important sites in biblical history, especially where Jesus Christ is believed to have delivered the Sermon on the Mount. Mr. Harper first went on to visit the Hula Valley, where the visitors’ centre a bird sanctuary that is being built and named in his honour. Both Mr. and Mrs. Harper entered the tourist park packed with thousands of cranes that filled the air with high-pitched caws.

After that, Mr. Harper flew by helicopter to Tel Aviv, where he was awarded an honorary doctorate at a university, and answered a wide range of questions focusing on economics and foreign affairs. The Prime Minister spent most part of his last day in Israel in the northern part of the country, and noticeably away from the world of politics in Jerusalem, where he had previously met political leaders and addressed the Knesset along with meeting Israeli President and Prime Minister earlier in the week.

Mr. and Mrs. Harper also walked along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, which is a major attraction to many Christians since it holds a central place in the Bible. It is believed to be the place were New Testament describes Christ performing miracles more than 2,000 years ago. Lastly, Mr. Harper also visited the Church of the Beatitudes, i.e. said to be built on the hill where Christ delivered his sermon, in company of several nuns who toured the church.
