A serious and devastating crash that made a stretch of Hwy. 401 inaccessible on Wednesday morning included almost 75 vehicles. Emergency crews are working since the time of crash but the eastbound and westbound lanes were closed between Hwy. 41 and Deseronto Rd., i.e. located about 45 km west of Kingston, Ont.

Reporters confirm that at least an estimate of 75 vehicles are involved, including 35 semi-trailers. Hence the abnormal debris from the cars and trucks has scattered all over the stretch of highway and nearby ditches. However, police or other authorities have failed to release any official prospective, information or figures about the injuries or possible fatalities in the massive accident. According to Const. Jackie Perry of Napanee OPP, a bus was taken to the scene to provide shelter for those motorists trapped along the highway. She explained that “there’s a lot of tractor trailers out here. The roads are very slippery and traffic is backed up because we’re detouring,” and added that so “it’s going to be like this most of the day, I’d say, because there are multiple tractor trailers in the ditch.”

The site of crash on the highway still remains nothing but ice beneath a thin covering of snow, which also caused whiteout conditions at the time of crash. However, many vehicles passed other vehicles even though the passing lane was covered in snow. Traffic is now open in the westbound lane since it was reopened at around 11 a.m., whereas tow trucks are being arranged to remove damaged vehicles from the road.
