A Halifax RCMP officer rescued three little lice-ridden puppies found stranded alone while trembling in cold on the side of an isolated Halifax-area roadway on late Tuesday night. The officer driving on Lake Eagle Drive in East Preston saw the puppies at around 10:53 p.m. and took them in while giving them cop-themed names.
In a press release issued by police, it revealed that the puppies were initially afraid of the officer, who later charmed them into his patrol car and went on to search the area in a failed attempt to locate other dogs nearby. Consequently, the officer brought the puppies’ to the RCMP’s Cole Harbour detachment, where they were given some water. Later the dogs were shifted to the police emergency service centre, where dispatchers arranged food and toys for the dogs, along with a warm bath. Afterwards, all three were taken to a shelter in the morning.
Police is unaware how the six-to-seven-week-old dogs got stranded on the road side. According to an RCMP spokesperson, Cpl. Scott MacRae, the trio including two females and a male received a veterinarian’s care on late Wednesday. She alleged that all indications show that the dogs were abandoned, and it was explained that they did not possess any identifying materials such as tags or tattoos while their breed is also unknown. He mentioned that “we really don’t have many leads to go on at this time,” and so “there’s a request out to the public, if you have information about this to give us a call.”
