Calgary police charged woman Jennifer Mason in relation to a sexual assault investigation

The Calgary Police Service has laid sexual assault-related charges against a local teacher.

Between August 2012 and November 2013, it is alleged a 29-year-old woman was involved in a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old male who previously attend the same school.

This matter came to the attention of police when a member of public reported what he believed was suspicious activity in a vehicle in a community in northwest Calgary. When police attended, they spoke to both parties and initiated an investigation.

On Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, the suspect was arrested without incident.

Jennifer Mason has been charged with sexual assault, invitation to sexual touching, sexual exploitation by a person in a position of trust and sexual interference.

Her next court appearance is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 28, 2014.

In order to protect the identity of the victim, the details of the school are not being released at this time. However, parents at the school will be notified by the appropriate school board.

Police do not believe there are any other victims in relation to this case.

By definition under the Criminal Code of Canada, a minor cannot legally consent to a sexual relationship with a person who is in a position of trust.
