Police Seize 2500 Marijuana Plants, Richibucto, N.B.

Over the past week, District 5 RCMP have conducted multiple investigations into marijuana grow-operations in the Saint-Joseph-de-Kent, Kouchibouguac, Baie-Sainte-Anne, Hardwick, Pointe-Sapin, Collette and Rogersville areas. As a result, police seized 2500 marijuana plants from wooded areas.

This is in addition to more than 3500 plants seized over the course of the past month. So far this year, with the public’s assistance, District 5 RCMP have seized over 6000 marijuana plants from outdoor grow operations in the Kent and Northumberland county areas, enough to produce up to three million joints.

"This is the time of year criminals harvest their marijuana," says Sgt. Jeff Johnston. "The public can help us deter and disrupt these criminals by reporting any suspicious activity, such as vehicles coming and going at odd hours, the presence of soil, pots and fertilizers where there are no gardens, or if they notice a strong, skunk-like odour that could indicate a marijuana grow. People know their communities best. If something seems odd, report it to the police so that we can eliminate this criminal element in your neighbourhood."
