54-year-old Linda Hunt was quick to leap and assist Peel Regional Police Const., Mike Klarenbeek, at the time of last Friday’s shooting at the Brampton courthouse shooting, which made her the hero who saved a police officer’s life by stopping her wound from bleeding. At the time Hunt was there to defend drug charges but now after a week since the incident, Hunt is told that her charges have been dropped. She alleged that “I won’t have a criminal record” and hence “I am so relieved.”

Hunt confirmed that she is told that the charges have been withdrawn, after which a spokesman for the Ministry of the Attorney General also confirmed the same on Friday. Hunt was facing a marijuana possession charge and was scheduled to attend a court hearing on March 28. However, she was waiting to enter the courtroom next to the security area when Klarenbeek was struck with a bullet. She remembered that “I saw the blood pumping out of him so I knew I had to do something.”

According to Hunt, her St. John’s Ambulance training from three decades ago came in handy along with the strong hands of another Peel officer who was able to control the bleeding until the paramedics arrived. According to the witnesses, Hunt’s immediate and expert action led everyone to believe that she was a nurse. In her remarks, Hunt has refused to accept that claim that she is a hero but says that she is more concerned about Klarenbeek’s recovery.
