Saskatchewan Premier, Brad Wall, has publicly announced his support for the temporary foreign workers (TFW) program. Wall was addressing the press at the 2014 Saskatoon Premier’s Dinner on Thursday night, when he mentioned that it’s important to recognize the value immigrants are bringing to our province.

Wall stated that “in the last two years in Saskatchewan, 50 per cent plus of temporary foreign workers became permanent residents through the Saskatchewan immigrant nominee program. That’s the rest of the story that we need to make sure people understand.” He said that our province was built on immigrants and there’s no need to change that formula. He alleged that “it’s been a strength of our province that we should continue to welcome people who are helping build Saskatchewan.” However, Wall admitted that jobs should be first offered to Canadians and then the TFWs.

On the other hand, Wall reiterated that the province will support in funding a north commuter bridge, but he refrained from elaborating whether the plan includes money for a downtown traffic bridge. He said that “I know the city’s going to bundle them and so we’ll work it out with the city how that sort of divides up because we do think there are certain things that are obvious municipal projects and then some where the province should absolutely be a partner.” Wall revealed that his government has committed to being a third partner on the City of Saskatoon’s request for federal funding through a public-private partnership.
