One of the two Canadians who died during a plane crash in northeastern Colombia, Peter Moore, was described on Monday as a smart guy with a passion for the outdoors. The registry of the plane, identified by the civil aviation authority in Columbia, confirmed that the plane crashed high in the Andes on Saturday belonged to Regina-based Oracle Geoscience International, i.e. a company that conducts aerial surveys for mining companies.

According to the company, two Canadians were aboard the plane who were both killed. Among the dead was the company’s co-founder, Peter Moore, and the plane’s registered pilot, Neville Ribeiro. Having known Moore for nearly 25 years, Jack Richardson, said that he was shocked to hear the news about the crash. During a telephonic interview from Blind River, Ont., Richardson mentioned that “his geophysics, doing the flying, analyzing the anomalies — he knew that stuff very well. We talked about it a lot.” He added that “Peter is a good guy. He is very focused on his work, very focused on enjoying life.”

In addition to that, Richardson alleged that Moore ran an outfitting service for many years on the Great Lakes. Due to that, Moore was used to taking charters out salmon fishing and worked very hard at it. Richardson said that “he loved fishing. He was an excellent fisherman,” and “he built his own place on Lake Huron. You know he’s that kind of guy — very resourceful, very independent.”
