On May 1, 2014, the DRPS received information about the location of human remains in the Kirkfield area.

The DRPS attended the area and discovered human remains just outside of Kirkfield in the City of Kawartha Lakes. Investigators liaised with the Kawartha Lakes O.P.P., which has jurisdiction in this area. The human remains were transported to the Centre of Forensic Sciences – Coroners Building in Toronto where a post mortem was conducted on Tuesday May 6, 2014.

The remains have been identified as Gary Newman, of Oshawa, who was originally reported missing to the DRPS in May of 2005. The autopsy also concluded that he was a victim of homicide and that the remains had been at that location for many years.
