A dreadful RCMP confrontation has led to death of the offender, while an RCMP officer remains in hospital and two other officers recover from their injuries due to the gunfight in St. Paul, Alta. on Friday night. According to the police, the incident began at 6 p.m. local time, when a man in a black pickup truck rammed an RCMP vehicle, pinning the officer inside, and then meaninglessly opened fire on two male RCMP officers in a second car.

Consequently, the officers returned fire and the driver of the truck died in the gunfight. So far, the investigators are unsure about whether the suspect’s fatal wound was self-inflicted or the result of RCMP gunshots. According to the press release, the female officer pinned in her car is receiving treatment for serious leg injuries in a local hospital after she was extracted from the vehicle using the Jaws of Life. In addition to that, an officer is suffered facial injuries inflicted from shattered glass while another was shot in the hand, both of whom were treated and released from hospital on Friday night.

In a statement issued by Alberta Minister of Justice and Solicitor General, Jonathan Denis, on Friday, he said that “on behalf of Premier Hancock and all Albertans, I extend my thoughts and prayers to everyone and their families affected by this serious incident.” He alleged that “the terrible events this evening in St. Paul are a reminder of the very real dangers faced by law enforcement, as they put themselves at risk in the line of duty to protect and serve Albertans.”
