The Windsor Police Service has one man in custody facing numerous charges after two apartments were entered last night on the city’s east side. At 8:30 p.m. on Monday October 4, 2010, uniformed officers responded to the Lions Manor in the 200 block of Strabane Ave for a report of an unknown suspect entering two separate apartments and while the residents were inside and removing personal property of those residents.

The investigation revealed that a male suspect had entered the controlled access front door of the building when a visually impaired resident exited the door. The suspect then attended an apartment and entered the apartment through an unlocked door. The resident of the apartment was in the washroom at the time and heard the suspect inside the apartment. Upon exiting the washroom, the resident, who is visually impaired observed the suspect leaving her apartment. The resident noticed that a pair of eyeglasses and some jewelry had been removed from her apartment.

Shortly after this occurrence, Windsor Police received a second call from an elderly male resident in another apartment in the same building reporting that a man had entered his unlocked apartment while he was sleeping. The resident, who is completely blind, awoke to the sound of his apartment door closing. The resident checked his bedroom dresser and noticed that his wallet and cell phone were missing.

Uniformed officers responding to the area observed a man matching the description of the suspect walking in the area of Wyandotte St. E. near Strabane Ave. While officers were speaking with the suspect, the investigating officers speaking with the two apartment residents called the missing cell phone number which began to ring inside the suspect’s jacket. Officers standing with the suspect immediately placed the suspect under arrest for Break and Enter. A subsequent search of the suspect revealed that he was in possession of the above mentioned property from both victims’ apartments. Further to this property, the search of the suspect also uncovered that he was also in possession of two other wallets and cash which had been stolen from a locked vehicle which had been parked in a parking lot in the 900 block of Ouellette Ave. at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Monday.

It should be noted that a Break and Enter to a ground floor apartment at the Lions Manor was reported to Windsor Police on September 17, 2010. It is unknown at this time if the same suspect is responsible for this occurence.

David JENEREAUX – 57 years of Windsor is charged with two counts of Break and Enter as well as four counts of Possession of Stolen Property.
