Tories Delay New Toronto Riding’s Hostile Nomination Battle

The Conservative Party has announced to have postponed a hostile nomination battle in newly formed Toronto-area riding, alleging that it needs more time to attend several complaints of fraud and robocalls in the riding. Earlier, nomination vote in Oakville North-Burlington was scheduled for May 24, but now the party stated on Thursday evening that it would be delayed “in order to fully review complaints received” in recent days by both candidates’ campaigns.

Party spokesperson, Cory Hann, mentioned in a statement issued on Thursday that “the Conservative Party believes in upholding the integrity of our nomination process, and apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause‎,” however the party refrained from announcing a new voting date. The current MP for the nearby riding of Mississauga-Brampton South, Eve Adams, has announced to seek nomination in the newly created riding, whose key opponent is‎ chiropractor Natalia Lishchyna. A flood of allegations of interference in the riding have already resulted in the resignation of the party’s executive director and Ms. Adams’s fiance, Dimitri Soudas.

In addition to that, ‎Ms. Lishchyna’s campaign have revealed to have found 38 cases where voters were signed up by the supporters of Ms. Adams only to have problems revealed afterwards, including a case where five family members were given Conservative Party memberships without paying for them. Also, Ms. Lishchyna’s campaign have reported to have found other cases by calling only 238 homes out of the total 1,800 Conservative Party members in the riding.
