RCMP finally confirmed in a press conference on Friday morning that Justin Bourque has been arrested as the suspect in the shooting deaths of three RCMP officers and two injured. According to the press conference, the deceased officers included 45-year-old Cst. Fabrice Georges Gevaudan from France, 32-year-old Cst. David Joseph Ross from Victoriaville, Que. and 40-year-old Cst. Douglas James Larche from Saint John, NB.

At the press conference, Assistant Commissioner and Commanding Officer of RCMP in New Brunswick, Roger Brown, mentioned that “this is a trying time for our members as we have lost three of our own and two more are hospitalized. I commend our members for their dedication and professionalism as they were able to stay focused on the task at hand and getting results throughout this ordeal bringing the situation to a quick end. The work of our members was professional and effective. They deserve my utmost respect.”

The alleged shooter was arrested by the RCMP in Moncton just after midnight on Friday in a resident’s backyard. According to a resident, Michelle Thibodeau, officers dressed in SWAT clothing gathered in her backyard in the dark and ordered Justin Bourque to the ground. Thibodeau explained that “they started yelling, ‘Come out with your hands up!’ and they had their guns loaded.” It was added that “about five minutes later, Justin surrendered himself and he said, ‘I’m done,’ and then they arrested him and brought him to my frontyard where they had him sprawled on the ground.”
