Shortly after midnight, the RCMP arrested Justin Bourque, the main suspect, following the shooting which occurred in Moncton on June 4, 2014, resulting in the tragic death of three RCMP officers and injuries to two others.

Bourque, a 24-year old man from Moncton, was apprehended and taken into custody in a wooded area near the intersection of Wheeler Boulevard and Mountain Road in Moncton. The suspect surrendered without incident after he was apprehended by police and is currently in custody. While police recovered weapons close by, the accused had none on him at the time of the arrest. Criminal charges are pending.

Although the immediate situation has been resolved, the investigation is ongoing. Residents in the affected area are now free to leave their homes and the roadblocks have been lifted.

The RCMP is now confirming the identities of the fallen members are:

– Constable David Ross, 32, from Victoriaville, Quebec.
– Constable Fabrice Georges Gevaudan, 45, from Boulogne-Billancourt, France
– Constable Douglas James Larche, 40, from Saint John, New Brunswick

The RCMP is in mourning, following one of the worst tragedies for the RCMP in New Brunswick.

“This is a trying time for our members as we have lost three of our own and two more are hospitalized. I commend our members for their dedication and professionalism as they were able to stay focused on the task at hand and getting results throughout this ordeal bringing the situation to a quick end. The work of our members was professional and effective. They deserve my utmost respect,” stated Assistant Commissioner Roger Brown, Commanding Officer of RCMP in New Brunswick.
