Michael “Pinball” Clemons mentioned in a statement issued on Friday that a run for the mayor’s office isn’t in his playbook this year. However, Clemons alleged that he hasn’t entirely rejected the idea of public service. He said that “I’ve said before honestly I have thought about (running for mayor),” adding that “right now is not the timing because of my own personal goals. I’ve got more dreams than I have life left.” He alleged that “in terms of mayor itself, that’s not necessarily the particular goal.”

Clemons is known as a former player, coach and Argos team president. He was often considered a possible mayoral contender. 49-year-old Clemons was helping raise donations for the Daily Bread Food Bank as part of the Michael “Pinball” Clemons Foundation’s Just Give at Scotia Plaza on Friday. He said that “I think we can serve without having an official position and a lot of times it is easier that way.” Clemons added that “public service still in the mid-50’s is still absolutely an option.”

Clemons refused to comment on several controversial statements attributed to Mayor Rob Ford about blacks and other minorities that have been reported in the media. He alleged that “that really has nothing to do with me, that’s more the mayor’s job and his responsibility.” Clemons said that “the mayor has to handle himself and do what is important for him.” He added that “people should only apologize if they feel they need to” and “other than that, you’re not really apologizing.”
