NDP Leader Andrea Horwath has straightforwardly stated that she will not support a Progressive Conservative government that plans to eliminate 100,000 jobs from the civil service. Only a day earlier, Liberal Leader Kathleen Wynne had accused Horwath of being open to back a Tory minority but the NDP leader mentioned unambiguously that does not support a key plank of the Progressive Conservative platform, i.e. Tim Hudak’s plans to reduce the provincial payroll.

Addressing the media, Horwath stated that “I want to make it crystal clear though. I will not back any plan that kills 100,000 middle class jobs and takes firefighters, nurses, teachers, paramedics out of your communities.” On the other hand, the NDP leader did not indicate having a possible coalition with the Liberal minority government either, as it alleged that it would not support “corruption in government.” According to recent polls, the election are still a close fight between the Liberals and Progressive Conservatives with NDP in third place.

However, Horwath has repelled the idea of a coalition after Thursday’s election. She said that “I’m running to be the premier of this province,” adding that “but I can tell you for sure that I will not support 100,000 families being kicked to the curb and I will not support corrupt Liberals.” She added that “I’m going to wait until the people of this province make their decision.” On the other hand, Wynne launched a targeted appeal to NDP voters on Sunday, calling on them to vote Liberal as the only way to block a Tory government.
