Calgary police have announced to have branched out their search for a missing five-year-old boy and his grandparents since they went missing on Monday. Making an announcement on Saturday, Sgt. Daniella Seravelli stated that almost 20 marked police officers are searching a radius of about 400 metres around the Parkhill home, in the 100 block of 38A Avenue S.W.

In her announcement Sgt. Seravelli explained that “houses, residences, greenspace, anything like that,” and added that “what usually happens in any kind of search like this is a secondary search which is this one, is conducted five to seven days after the primary search and what it allows us to do is to see if we’ve missed anything or if any other new evidence has come to light.” Investigators believe a violent crime took place in the home of Kathryn and Alvin Likness, when they and grandson Nathan O’Brien went missing from on Monday.

Staff Sgt. Doug Andrus confirmed that investigators collected forensic evidence taken from the home and added that “we’ve sent the exhibits away, and we’ll have a better understanding of that once we get the results back from those exhibits but based on the evidence I would say that someone would be in medical distress.” Andrus explained that results of forensic testing are expected within the week. He alleged that “we have done a lot of work, but there’s still a lot of work to be done,” adding that “we’ve got a lot of support and a lot of assistance from the public.”
