Calgary Police have confirmed to have arrested a male suspect, and discontinued an Amber Alert, in connection with the ongoing disappearance of a five-year-old Calgary boy, Nathan O’Brien, and his grandparents, Kathryn and Alvin Liknes. However, the police announcement on Monday refrained from revealing the identity of the suspect as it claims that charges are yet to be laid. However, Calgary police have scheduled to host a press conference at 1 p.m. MT, 3 p.m. ET.

Earlier on Monday, it was revealed that the man previously referred to as a “person of interest” in the case, 54-year-old Douglas Garland, had been re-arrested in Airdrie, Alta. He was previously questioned about the disappearance in early July after he was arrested on an unrelated charge. Garland was re-arrested on Monday morning from a local hotel where he was staying as part of his bail conditions stemming from an unrelated charge. The missing child and his grandparents were last seen two weeks ago, when the boy visited his grandparents for a sleepover. However, when his mother arrived to collect him the next morning, the three family members were gone.

Police has not only looked over the Liknes’ home, but investigators are also searching an Airdrie property belonging to Garland. They are also examining landfills in the area for any possible leads, as per the routine procedure. At the time of Garland’s bail on Friday, he received $750 bail from the court for unrelated charges.
