Andrew Higgins charged with fraud for selling counterfeit merchandise in Oshawa

Responding officers arrested a Toronto man and seized counterfeit merchandise worth $55,000 in Oshawa following a complaint from the public.

On Friday October 8, 2010 at approximately 10:35 a.m. officers from Central East Division responded to a public complainant concerning a suspicious male vendor at the intersection of Waterloo Street and Ritson Road South in Oshawa. The male suspect was located parked in a rental vehicle at the intersection and selling counterfeit DVD’s and general merchandise including designer name hats; gloves; sunglasses and purses, with a total value of almost $55,000. The suspect was arrested without incident and the counterfeit merchandise seized by investigators.

Andrew HIGGINS, age 27, of Sundance Crescent in Scarborough is charged with: Fraud Over $5,000 x2 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 x2. The accused was released on an Undertaking with conditions.

Durham Regional Police would like to remind the public that counterfeit merchandise sold to the public is not only illegal but poses potential serious health and safety concerns due to the lack of quality control.
