The former Progressive Conservative leader and current MPP for Niagara West-Glanbrook, Tim Hudak, ‎made his first appearance in the legislature on Thursday since his party suffered defeat at hands of the Liberals in the June 12 election. Addressing reporters after the session, he mentioned in a relaxed tone that “it’s great to be back.” Prior to his arrival, he was quietly sworn in as the MPP for Niagara West-Glanbrook.

Although Premier Kathleen Wynne is still pursuing the libel suit filed against Hudak for his comments about the Liberals’ gas-plants scandal, she left her seat and went across the floor to greet him. Wynne and Hudak had a warm exchange of few words before she returned to her seat on the other side of the house. Additionally, Deputy Premier Deb Matthews and Government House Leader Yasir Naqvi also went over to greet Hudak and welcomed him back.

Although NDP Leader Andrea Horwath still blames Hudak for his controversial promise to cut 100,000 jobs for hurting her party’s performance in the election, on Thursday she said that “there’s really nothing to do about it at this point. The people have spoken, we have a new legislature”. She added that “he’s back to take his seat, which as an elected member he should be doing. I welcomed him back.” Meanwhile, in response to more questions by the reporters, Hudak, highlighted that “I’m proud of the campaign that we put forward, proud of our team — ultimately voters chose other options, I respect their decision.”
