Canada Post has announced to have formed two documents that will ask disabled clients to provide proof of their health in order to allow letter carriers to continue dropping off the mail. The two forms drafted by Canada Post will soon be addressed to customers who have claimed to be unable to walk to their community mailbox.

The admittedly drowning Crown Corporation, Canada Post, has already announced a huge phase out of its door-to-door delivery over five years, starting from late this year, in order to reduce up to 8,000 jobs over the next 10 years. The forms officially inquire about several proofs and details about the client’s disability and how the affliction “affects their ability to get to the community mailbox.” Additionally, the Crown Corporation has asked for an official “certification from a qualified health care professional may be necessary.” Moreover, Canada Post has made it compulsory for doctors to provide personal information, including a phone number.

However, a spokesman for Canada’s privacy commissioner confirmed that the watchdog has concerns over the form and it will soon contact Canada Post to address them. Additionally, Montreal Mayor who has openly lobbied against the Canada Post job cuts, Denis Coderre, also called the move “disgusting and stupid.” Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Canada Post, Anick Losier, mentioned in an email that “the information gathered will help our team to better understand the clients’ personal circumstances and undertake a dialogue with them about the type of help that would be most appropriate for each of them.”

  1. I don’t want a dialogue with Canada Post, just my mail consistently delivered, either to the door or to the supermailbox. Lets stop the silly P.R. words. Nobody in Canada Post will be able to deal with the b.s. that this doctor’s note comment_content_IDea entails. Whoever thought of this scheme is an comment_content_IDiot, and his boss is incompetent.
