A 60-year-old volunteer at current Toronto Mayor Rob Ford’s mayoral campaign office, William Byers, was arrested by police after he entered in a physical altercation on Wednesday afternoon. According to the police, Mr. Byers have been charged with one count of assault, one count of mischief and one count of theft. In addition to that, another man arrested yesterday has been released without charges.

At the time, 43-year-old Paul Benoit was attempting to make a videotape posing as Rob Ford, with a mask on his face, which led to the scuffle. Paul Benoit explained on Wednesday night that “basically I was going to Rob Ford’s campaign office to do some filming as a citizen journalist for my website.” He added that “I was going to interview people to see who would or would not vote for Rob Ford.” However, Benoit revealed that the volunteers approached him “very forcefully,” and while he was backing out, he was pushed and kicked and his camera was kicked out of his hands until he and the volunteer threw punches during the incident.

In its report, police has stated that both men received minor injuries. It confirmed that neither Mr. Ford nor his campaign manager, Doug Ford, were present in the office at the time and have no direct knowledge of the incident. While canvassing in the area of Weston Road and Finch Avenue, Ford told reporters that police are taking care of the incident. He said that “it’s unfortunate that we had someone come in to our campaign office and assault one of our workers.”
