Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has strongly refuted all claims of a new conflict of interest on Monday, in response to allegations against him and his family’s company, Deco Adhesive Products. Citing several freedom of information documents, The Globe and Mail published an article which stated that Mr. Ford’s office tried to expropriate privately-owned land so that a Deco client, Apollo Health and Beauty Care, could add more parking spaces.

Touting his campaign subway in front of Don Mills station, Mr. Ford addressed the allegations and stated that “I did not try to expropriate land, or do anything of the sorts for Apollo.” He alleged that “What I encouraged Apollo to do was come and create jobs in the city, and I helped them getting…120,000 square feet…And that’s what I helped them do…I am the person that creates jobs. If you look at my record on expropriating land, I’m not in favour.”

Furthermore, Mr. Ford elucidated that he helps anyone who asks, alleging that “I’m going to be as clear as possible, if someone calls me I don’t say ‘what company do you work at? Do we do business with you? No I’m not going to help you.’” He added that “I will sit down with any business person any time and say ‘I’ll give you reasons why you should allocate or reallocate or open up business in Toronto.” Additionally, he stressed that “Deco has never benefited one iota, not one dime, from any business we have done in the city for any companies.”
