The Canadian teacher being held in custody by Indonesian officials, Neil Bantleman, has been once again told that his custody has been extended for another 30 days. The former Calgary teacher has already been kept in detention on sex allegations without any charge since almost 50 days now.

According to Guy Bantleman, his brother Neil was informed on Thursday evening about the extension in detention. He mentioned that “Neil was handed papers this evening extending his detention by another 30 days,” adding that “he also had a meeting (Thursday) with the Canadian ambassador to Indonesia.” A former teacher at Webber Academy in Calgary, Neil Bantleman, is being kept in detention with another fellow teacher, both of whom taught at Jakarta International School (JIS). The initial sex abuse claims were made against contracted JIS cleaning staff earlier this year. Whereas on the other hand, Neil Bantleman’s wife who also works with him at JIS, Tracy, mentioned earlier that police have yet to prove there is any evidence against her husband, or fellow teacher Ferdi Tjiong.

Almost two weeks ago, Tracy confirmed that her husband’s case file was handed over to the public prosecutions office on Aug. 15. In her remarks, Tracy alleged that the prosecution technically had two weeks to determine whether there was enough evidence to take the case to trial, but there have been no new developments since. At the time she said both her husband and Tjiong were holding up well.
