Police Says Fatally Stabbed Teen Attempted to ‘Defuse’ a Fight

Police has confirmed that the 19-year-old student fatally stabbed at an Etobicoke high school, Hamid Aminzada, was actually attempting to defuse a confrontation among two other students. According to the details reveled by the police on Wednesday morning, it was confirmed that a 17-year-old male suspect has been taken under custody and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the stabbing. The suspect, who shall not be named due to being a minor, turned himself in to police with a lawyer at approximately 7:30 p.m on Tuesday.

Earlier on Tuesday, Hamid Aminzada was hit on the face and stabbed in the abdomen in the hallway of North Albion Collegiate Institute (NACI) at almost 12:20 p.m. Thereafter, the first responders found him without any vital signs at the scene of the stabbing, although he was revived and taken to a nearby hospital, he failed to survive his injuries. According to a statement issued by the NACI principal, Naeem Siddiq, the teen was a student in the English as a Second Language Program, and was also taking regular courses at the high school. Siddiq explained that “this is a very nice and kind young man,” adding that “it’s a very sad story for us as he was quite focused on his family and his future.”

According to a press statement issued by the police on Wednesday morning, Aminzada intervened to “defuse” a situation between two other students, who had an ongoing dispute between among themselves that led to the confrontation in the hallway.
