EPS West Division officers have charged two men in connection with selling stolen property at a flea market.

After receiving intelligence information investigators arrested two men in two different booths at a flea market in Downtown Division on Saturday, Nov. 6 at approximately 11:30 a.m. The booths were searched after the arrests, revealing approximately $50,000-worth of stolen property.

Tony Barros, 52 and Krzysztof Kwiatkowski, 47 were each charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 and attempted possession of stolen property.

Investigators believe many of the items seized at the flea market were allegedly stolen from retail stores throughout the city. Stolen items included BluRay discs, DVDs, gaming controllers and Nicorette nicotine patches.

"A lot of the products were being sold for less money at the flea market than what the retail giants can buy the products for wholesale,” says Sgt. Ken Mah, one of the investigators on the files. “The products being sold were in new pristine condition and often new-releases only available at certain retailers.”

The media are invited to West Division on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 10 a.m. for a photo/video op of the seized items and interviews with Staff Sgt. Dave Berry and Sgt. Ken Mah.

“Property crime continues to victimize a large portion of our community. The EPS is using various strategies to minimize the impact of crime in our neighbourhoods,” says Supt. Neil Dubord of West Division. “We will continue this important work, using initiatives that target those that steal, buy and sell stolen property.”
