A rough landing of an Air Canada passenger plane on Thursday night has left a runway at the Edmonton International Airport suspended on Friday. The incident forced three people to hospital with minor injuries after the airplane landed on Runway 02-20 at around 8:30 p.m., which had left from Calgary to Grande Prairie. The airline confirmed that one injured patient remains in the hospital on Friday morning for observation while rest have been released.

One of 75 people aboard flight AC8481, Lee Swaile, revealed that the captain had told before taking off that it would be a rough takeoff because of a cross wind. Whereas, when the plane left the runway at Calgary airport, Swaile alleged that “about 15 minutes later, the captain said the tire popped on takeoff and we would be diverted to Edmonton.” However, Swaile stated that “he said it would be perfectly fine to land with one tire down.” He alleged that mood in the plane was calm and normal for the flight until the plane landed in Edmonton. Swaile said that “when we touched down, you could feel the other tire give out right away. You could see sparks flying. There were so many sparks.”

Swaile explained that the impact of landing shook everyone inside the plane, adding that the smell of burning electrical equipment, and dust and debris, made things “pretty crazy.” Swaile alleged that 30 minutes wait outside the plane and 20 minutes wait for the buses made things worse as “there was a lot of not knowing what was going on.” He complained that “there was no communication from staff. It was not the way you expect to be treated.”
