Police have confirmed to be trying their best in continuing the search and rescue mission on Monday for five youths missing on a northern Saskatchewan lake since last week. According to RCMP spokeswoman, Mandy Maier, strong winds, large waves and dropping temperatures are all foiling search efforts on Reindeer Lake.

Maier explained that “the weather has not been good in the area,” adding that temperatures range from -10 to -18 C. It was mentioned that “ultimately our concern is the water is going to freeze possibly. It’s going to be snowing and cold.” Police has explained that the missing teens left the community of Southend on Tuesday in two aluminum boats and were equipped for overnight camping. It is being optimistically believed that they might have taken shelter on shore from the cold and wind as they were going on a planned moose hunting for a couple of days. When they failed to reach back as planned, police in Southend were informed late Thursday night. The group includes four boys and one girl ranging in age from 13 to 17.

Maier revealed that search-and-rescue officials found the two boats docked at a private lodge on Saturday, where they reached on Sunday due to poor weather. She alleged that “the cabin was vacant at that point” but it was broken into and some supplies were taken. Police failed to confirm if it were them as Maier said that “we can’t say specifically it was them, but we do hope that they are safe at this point.”
