Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger has publicly apologized to all MLAs on Friday for “inadvertently” misleading the legislative assembly almost two years ago regarding whether or not he accepted a free Winnipeg Jets ticket. The premier confessed this week to have had accepted a free ticket from a Saskatchewan MLA in a corporate box on Dec. 29, 2011. In his remarks, Selinger alleged that he did made a failed attempt to pay for the ticket but then made a $300 donation to a non-profit housing corporation in lieu of the free ticket.

Selinger mentioned in the legislature that “I want to apologize for inadvertently misleading the House through statements I made May 9, 2012. The information I put on the record was incomplete and for that I apologize.” Back in the day, the premier was questioned by former Tory leader, Hugh McFadyen, specifically about if he had always paid for his Jets tickets and Selinger replied that he had.

Premier Selinger made the new revelation to the chamber on Friday, alleging that I’ve made “an unintentional omission” about receiving the freebie and wished “to set the record straight.” Later upon inquiry about why he apologized if he had made a donation in lieu of receiving the ticket, Selinger stated that “I think it’s important to set an example about how we behave in the legislature and I thought it was better to put that statement out there early so that we can get on with the priorities of Manitobans.”
