Only a week out of the mayor’s chair, Councillor Rob Ford has announced to be already “plotting” his return in 2018. Mr. Ford promised on Wednesday afternoon that “if my health holds up, my name will be on the ballot,” adding that “I’m plotting it as we speak. I’m ready to go, I just got to make sure my health is okay and first and foremost my health and my family — and we’re ready to go.”
Though Mr. Ford promised not to take an “opposition” role on council, he vowed to fight Mayor John Tory on his above-ground SmartTrack rail plan. Ford stressed that “it’s not what the people want. The people want below, underground transit. They want subways,” adding that “I will fight tooth and nail if it doesn’t go underground.” In addition to that, it was revealed that Mr. Ford is anticipated to return to the hospital on Monday for a fifth round of chemotherapy. Previously, Mr. Ford has revealed that the first rounds of the cancer treatment failed to shrink a rare tumour in his abdomen.
In addition to suggesting his own return, Mr. Ford also urged his brother, Doug Ford, to run for Ontario PC’s leadership. Mr. Ford highlighted that “people want Doug Ford and Doug Ford should be the leader of the Conservative party.” Rob Ford stressed that many have asked his brother to change his mind and “the last time to sign up is Feb. 28. I really hope he changes his mind.”
