Friends of a girl who lost both her legs after being hit by a train in early December, Sara Stott, have launched a fundraising campaign to help her through the ordeal, pay her medical bills and buy a set of prosthetic legs. So far, the campaign has successfully raised more than $28,000 in just over two days. Sarah’s friend, Emily Whyte, posted her story on a crowdfunding website, GoFundMe, in order to gather donations for the cause.
22-year-old Sarah was returning home from the Irish Embassy Pub in downtown Montreal on Dec. 8 at around 3 a.m. when she was hit by a Canadian National Railway train. According to her mother, Shelley Stott, Sarah saw a train parked on one set of tracks and assumed it to be safe to cross, hence failing to see another train approaching on a different set of tracks. Consequently, Mrs. Stott alleged that Sarah was struck hard and remained conscious on tracks for three to four hours until she was able to flag down another train for help.
Currently, Sarah rests in a hospital and has undergone numerous surgeries along with at least 40 blood transfusions. Mrs. Stott alleged that “she was hooked up to 15 different machines” and “I don’t know how many tubes were coming out of her, and she’s had at least 15 surgeries so far. And they have a (tracheotomy) in her throat because she still has more to go.”
