Twelve Halifax units of firefighters rushed to save one of their own buildings, Harrietsfield-Sambro fire station, on New Year’s Day. According to the officials, the fire at Station 62 on Old Sambro Road in Harrietsfield was reported by a passerby just before 10 a.m. on Thursday. One particular firefighter was taken to ambulance for exhaustion.
The deputy chief of operations for Halifax Regional Fire and Rescue, Brian Gray, confirmed that the station is a volunteer fire station and so there was no one inside when the fire was reported. Gray explained that there were three 3 vehicles inside the station, namely an engine, a tanker and a service truck, which were evacuated by volunteer firefighters. In fact one of the units was even used by firefighters to assistance in fighting the flames. Gray stated that “one of them is engaged in fighting the fire. It’s delivering water to the scene. When the volunteers arrived on scene, they promptly utilised the apparatus to begin setting up to offer water.”
In addition to that, Mr. Gray explained that the fire reportedly started from the rear of the building and hence that harm was extensive. He said that “there’s a tiny kitchen region in the back side of the station. There’s a furnace space, a training room, workplace and a tiny sitting area. The floor to the upstairs location is absolutely compromised. We can’t put any crews up there so it’s quite in depth damage.” Updating about the injured firefighter, Gray confirmed that she has been released and is in superior condition.
