Investigators are looking into what led a truck to take a 500 foot plunge down an embankment near the Ghost River Reservoir, which killed two men and injured a third. Cochrane RCMP are unsure about what time the crash occurred, whereas EMS Spokesperson, Stuart Brideaux, speculated that it might have taken place sometime before the young man could get help.

In his remarks, Brideaux stated that “although we were called a little after 4:30, there’s also some suggestions that this may have occurred hours earlier in the evening,” adding that “that needs to be confirmed as well, however the only person able to give us some information was the male in his late teens, but he may have been able to self-extricate after the collision, and over a period of hours re-ascend the embankment.” Thereafter, when the sole surviving man reached the top, he was able to find help and finally Emergency crews were contacted. Acceding to EMS, the survivor was found at the top of the embankment at around 4:45am, after which he was immediately airlifted to Calgary hospital with frostbite, hypothermia and other injuries.

Furthermore, Brideaux explained it was a difficult accident scene to attend for emergency crews. He mentioned that “there were two other occupants that remained at the bottom of an embankment,” adding that “perhaps four to five hundred feet below the road where the truck had come off the road and tumbled down this embankment.”
