An armed man was wounded in a firing after officers responded to a call in downtown Toronto. The man is alleged to be in his 40’s. Authorities claim that the shots were fired after officers responded to Bloor Street and Sherbourne Street for a hold-up at Rexall PharmaPlus.

According to the police, the hold-up occurred at a convenience store on Sherbourne Street but the man fled the scene targeting the Pharmacy next. Const. Jenifferjit Sidhu said the police was called at around 8:30 a.m., in response to which a fire truck, two ambulances and around eight police cruisers retorted to the incident at 345 Bloor Street East. The paramedics said the man endured life-threatening injuries after being shot in the leg and torso. The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) of Ontario was called to scene since it’s mandated to look into any occurrence of someone hurt or killed during an interaction with the police. Consequently, Toronto police will no longer be commenting on the case.

A witness, who works at a drycleaner nearby, shared his experience saying that while he was walking by the pharmacy this morning he heard ‘put the gun down’ and there was so much screaming going on. The SIU confirmed that the injured man suffered a gunshot wound. The Bloor Street East is now closed is both directions between Huntley and Sherbourne Streets. The Sherbourne and Wellesley zone has also barred for traffic too.
