Controversial comedian Bill Cosby’s long-time co-actor and screen wife, Phylicia Rashad, has clarified her remarks during an interview to Showbiz 411 on Jan 6, when she stated that several sexual assault allegations against Mr. Cosby should be forgotten.

According to initial reports, she allegedly said to “forget these women. What you’re seeing is the destruction of a legacy. And I think it’s orchestrated. I don’t know why or who’s doing it, but it’s the legacy. And it’s a legacy that is so important to the culture. Someone is determined to keep Bill Cosby off TV. And it’s worked. All his contracts have been cancelled.” However, during another interview on World News Tonight with David Muir, Rashad openly stated that “that was a misquote. That is not what I said. What I said is, ‘this is not about the women. This is about something else. This is about the obliteration of legacy.’” While explaining her point of view with clarity, Rashad stressed that “I am a woman. I would never say such a thing.”

The attorney defending three more women who accused Cosby of sexual assault, Gloria Allred, grilled Rashad for her initial remarks. She said that “Phylicia, I vow to you that I will not forget these women, because women matter. They deserve respect and dignity. Phylicia, you should be supporting these women rather than joining Cosby’s paid ‘attack dogs’ who are trying to undermine them in any way they can.”
