Boston City officials excitingly announced that the city has won the U.S. selection for the 2024 Olympics bid and they are ‘wicked excited’ to host the event. Boston had to face tough competition from San Francisco, Los Angeles and Washington in order to be on the United States Olympic Committee’s choice for the American bid on Thursday. In his remarks, Bid Chair John Fish stressed that “I’m wicked excited, Boston is wicked excited.”

Boston Mayor, Marty Walsh, mentioned in his remarks “wow, can you believe this?’ and announced that meetings would be held soon with residents to discuss the plans. In presence of Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, Walsh aimed to have a completely transparent process and attempted to reassure those who fear public money will be misspent. He stressed that “I promise this will be the most open, inclusive and transparent process in Olympic history.”

Boston has now joined to face competition from the likes of Rome and an undecided German city in the race to host the 2024 Games. In response to Boston winning the nomination, United States Olympic Committee chairman, Larry Probst, alleged that “we’re excited about our plans to submit a bid for the 2024 Games and feel we have an incredibly strong partner in Boston that will work with us to present a compelling bid.” He stressed that “we’re grateful to the leaders in each of the four cities for their partnership and interest in hosting the most exciting sports competition on earth.”
