Ottawa police has confirmed to have cordoned off some area in the east end due to a “possible threat” involving chemicals and/or explosives. Police have asked the public to avoid the area between St-Laurent Blvd. and Joseph Cyr Street. According to the police, the call came in at around 10:15 p.m., which reported a suspicious vehicle involved in a Nova Scotia case.

In a press release by Ottawa Police Const. Chuck Benoit Wednesday morning, he said that “CBRNE and HAZMAT attended the scene to investigate a threat made by a suspicious male who had possibly checked in at the Chimo Hotel located in the 1100 block of Joseph Cyr.” Police believes that the suspect is still inside the hotel due to which it is conducting a search operation. Officers are currently clearing the entire multi-story building in an effort to find him. Meanwhile, the authorities have successfully evacuated the entire and closed all nearby roads as a safety measure.

Reports claim that the Ottawa search is a result of two evacuations in the community of Cole Habour, N.S., on Tuesday as police claimed to have had found a suspicious package containing hazardous chemicals at a home in the community. At the time, neighbours were evacuated from the area and Hazmat teams removed the chemicals. RCMP said the package did contain hazardous chemicals, but no explosives. That investigation is also continuing. Consequent, sources tell that Ottawa police has been briefed about the suspect, vehicle and other details about the incident in Cole Harbour.
