The RCMP has confirmed that the on-duty officer shot four days ago at a casino, 42-year-old St. Albert RCMP Const. David Wynn, passed away on Wednesday morning. The father of three, Wynn, was gunned down amid an on-going routine investigation when the officer approached the suspect of a stolen truck after it was discovered in the parking lot of the Apex casino. According to the RCMP press release on Wednesday morning, Officer Wynn failed to regain consciousness since the incident.
Commanding officer of Alberta RCMP, Deputy Commissioner Marianne Ryan, mentioned in a press conference on Wednesday morning that “today, the RCMP lost a dedicated member in the line of duty, his wife lost a husband, and his sons lost a father.” He alleged that “words cannot express the deep sadness we feel today.” In addition to Wynn, his partner and Auxiliary Const., Derek Bond, was shot in the same the incident and is now slated to face a long recovery process but will survive.
In an earlier message on Monday, Wynn’s wife, Shelly MacInnes-Wynn, thanked St. Albert RCMP and the public for their support and revealed that the family is saying their goodbyes to Wynn. Wynn is also remembered as a former paramedic who joined the RCMP in 2009. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons Matthew, Nathan and Alexander. RCMP have announced to hold a regimental funeral for Wynn in the Edmonton area.
