Authorities have confirmed that a Canadian facing charges in the U.S. for the murder of five American soldiers in Iraq, 36-year-old Faruq Khalil Muhammad ‘Isa aka Sayfildin Tahir Sharif, have been extradited from Canada to the U.S. He is set to appear in court on Saturday in Brooklyn, New York.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office of the eastern district of New York confirmed that ‘Isa was handed over to the U.S. from Canada. It was mentioned in a statement that ‘Isa is accused of masterminding an attack at a U.S. base in Mosul, Iraq, on April 10, 2009. The five victims who passed away in the attack were 24-year-old Staff Sergeant Gary L. Woods, 32-year-old Sergeant First Class Bryan E. Hall, 25-year-old Sergeant Edward W. Forrest Jr., 20-year-old Corporal Jason G. Pautsch, and 22-year-old Army Private First Class Bryce E. Gaultier.

Assistant Attorney General, John P. Carlin, mentioned in his remarks that “the families of these five Americans and all who have lost loved-ones to acts of terrorism should know that we will never cease seeking to hold terrorists accountable for their acts.” He alleged that “I want to thank the many agents, analysts, and prosecutors who are responsible for this matter.” Whereas, United States Attorney Loretta E. Lynch, also stated that “today’s extradition demonstrates to those who orchestrate violence against our citizens and our soldiers that there is no corner of the globe from which they can hide from the long reach of the law,” adding that “we will continue to use every available means to bring to justice those who are responsible for the deaths of American servicemen and women who paid the ultimate price in their defense of this nation.”’Isa
