Addressing the recent power outages in the province due to the strong winds, NSP’s Paul Casey has stated that “the safety of our customers and our employees is our utmost priority at all times.” He added that “we have been preparing for this storm with a full complement of crews and contractors being brought in to assist with restoration efforts, and we will not stop working until all of our customers have their power restored.”

The utility company mentioned in a press release that it had crews working all morning in coordination with the province’s Emergency Management Office and Department of Transportation “to ensure a co-ordinated response.” It was stated that the “outages that may cause public safety issues and emergency situations receive top priority during electrical outages. Critical infrastructure such as hospitals shelters, and essential provincial and municipal services, receive top priority along with major Nova Scotia Power infrastructure such as transmission lines and substations that service large pockets of customers.”

Even though the company has set up lengthy restoration assessments, it is turning out to be not so bad at repairing connections so far. The first power outage of the storm was reported in eastern Queens County at around 6 a.m. on Jan. 27, but the power was restored in just two hours despite restoration estimate being around Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. NSP stated that “estimated restoration times are based on our best estimates,” adding that “some individual outages may last longer, or be restored more quickly depending on the damage and road conditions.”
