According to a warning issued by the Ontario health officials on Monday morning, it has detected a confirmed case of the measles in Toronto and attendees of a Toronto church event, Acquire the Fire, are exposed to the virus.

Acting Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Robin Williams, mentioned in the statement that anyone who attended the event at the Church on the Queensway, located at 1536 The Queensway, could be at risk. The event was held at the church, formerly called the Queensway Cathedral, on Friday, Feb. 6 and Saturday, Feb. 7. Williams clarified that the viral person attended the event during the measles infectious period. Consequently, the warning cautioned all those who attended the events and are born after 1970 to review their immunization status and make sure that they’re protected against the measles.

The public health advisory mentioned that “if individuals who attended this event should develop these symptoms over the next two weeks, they are advised to contact their primary care provider by phone and also the local public health unit.” It was added that “unimmunized event attenders who develop these signs and symptoms must not present for care to their health care provider or emergency department without speaking by phone first to alert health care providers to their measles risk.”
The statement said those expressing symptoms “should not attend any public gatherings and should not attend school, work, daycare or any post-secondary institutions until they are cleared of measles risk.”
