After a Quebec City teen was subjected to strip search at her school, her mother has spoken out and alleged to be glad that the rules on searches are being reviewed. However, the mother stressed that she is still stunned by what happened to her daughter last week, when officials at Neufchatel High School accused her fifteen-year-old daughter of selling drugs. She revealed that the officials told her to strip off her clothes so that they could search for marijuana.

Speaking under condition of anonymity, the teen’s mother stressed that she doesn’t understand why no one from the school called her before the search was carried out. According to the mother, “she asked them twice to call me. They refused. Even criminals get that opportunity. My child is not a criminal,” adding that “I have to sign an authorization form for the school to take pictures of my daughter fully clothed, so this doesn’t make sense.” However, the mother admitted that she’s glad to hear the provincial government is reviewing its policies on strip searches at high schools since it doesn’t seem possible to her that such searches could be legal. She alleged that “this can’t be legal, it simply can’t be right.”

The teen has revealed that the principal and another female school staff member asked her to remove her clothes behind a screen, including her bra and underwear, and pass them over so they could look for the pot. Even though they didn’t find anything, the teen was still expelled from the school.
