The Maritimes and Newfoundland are bracing to receive blizzard conditions, loads of snow and strong winds, with some areas in PEI anticipated to receive up to 40 cm of snow. Consequently, the provincial hockey championship in PEI and The Moose Run Road Race in Nova Scotia were cancelled on Sunday due to a massive snowstorm.

Regardless of the cancellation, the weather didn’t deter the PEI Cricket Association from playing in the snow. A research scientist at the University of Prince Edward Island, Kehar Singh, revealed on Facebook that “the field is covered in snow but no one seems to mind. They say the snow helps beginners learn the sport #PEI.” According to The Weather Network, “snow totals are expected to hover between 20 to 25 cms in Halifax, but other parts of the Maritimes could see localized amounts approaching 50 centimetres by the time the system moves out.”

Whereas on the other hand, Environment Canada has issued a blizzard warnings for parts of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. The alert said that the “blizzard conditions with gusty winds and visibility frequently near zero in snow and blowing snow are expected or occurring.” Environment Canada added that “an intensifying low pressure system passing just south of Nova Scotia brings snow over the region today. Strengthening northeasterly winds gusting up to 80 km/h will result in blizzard conditions.” Hence, if anyone is flying in and out of the region, they should call their airline before heading to the airport.
