Campbellton man Steve Lévesque charged in the murder of Denis Leblanc

Campbellton – A 33-year-old Campbellton man has been charged in connection with the death of a 48-year old Val‑d’Amour man on August 12, 2015.

The charge is in addition to other charges the man faces that were laid last week.

On August 12 shortly before 4 a.m., police were called to a home on chemin Val-d’Amour regarding a break and enter. A man was arrested on chemin Perron in connection with the break and enter a short time later.

At about 8 a.m., police were called to another home on the same road where the break and enter took place. When police arrived, they discovered the body of Denis Leblanc inside the home. He had been shot.

On August 17, Steve Lévesque appeared in Campbellton Provincial Court charged with second degree murder in the death of Denis Leblanc. Five additional charges were also laid against Lévesque in connection with the break and enter. He faces additional charges of using a firearm in the commission of an offence, pointing a firearm, wearing a disguise while committing an offence, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and careless use of a firearm.

On August 13, Lévesque appeared in court charged with break and enter and uttering threats in connection with the break and enter.

He has been remanded into custody. He was sent for a 30-day psychiatric evaluation and is scheduled to appear in court again on September 15, 2015.
