Toronto’s Homicide Det.-Sgt., Hank Idsinga, has confirmed that a 25-year-old Toronto man was shot while driving down Yonge St. at around 2:22 a.m. on Saturday. He explained that the victim drove several blocks after “multiple gunshots heard” in the Yonge and Charles Sts. Area, where the victim was leaving a nearby nightclub.

In his remarks, Idsinga elucidated that “he was in his car on Charles St., when he was approached by a gunman, who fired several shots at the victim,” adding that “the victim was able to drive away from the shooting scene, proceeded southbound on Yonge St. and ultimately crashed his vehicle on Yonge St., just south of Carlton.” Witnesses confirm that a black Chrysler was being towed away around 10:30 a.m. from College Park while the shooting scene remained closed in the afternoon. Idsinga pointed out that “we have quite a bit of video from the area and we believe we have found our suspects on that video,” adding that “we believe there is only one gunman, but any associates … I’d label them as suspects as well … our shooter very well could have been on foot.”

Talking about the car, Idsinga said that the Chrysler smashed into the rear of a taxi cab, which caused “a lot of damage,” but there was no other reported injuries. He added that “there was a weapon recovered, whether it was the victim or suspect’s, we don’t know that yet.” Idsinga stated that “we’re trying to piece it together whether the victim was alone or with someone before the shooting and during the escape southbound on Yonge.”
