ihit investigating metro vancouver car crash death as murderThe Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has announced to investigate the “suspicious” death of a man in Surrey car crash as a murder. The incident took place in a residential neighbourhood in the area of 79th Avenue and 123rd Street soon after 9 p.m. on Friday night, where Surrey RCMP were reported about a car crashing into a tree.

Upon their arrival, Mounties found an unconscious man with serious injuries not consistent with a car crash. The man was immediately moved to a hospital but died shortly after and now his death is being investigated as murder. Two sisters living near the site rushed to the scene soon after they heard the crash and one of them, Gurlien Sidhu, revealed that “I was in my room getting ready to fall asleep, and I heard this car come up on the street here. Then I heard a really loud crash.”

The two sisters explained to have seen a Honda Accord with steam coming out of the front and a driver in the seat. Upon informing police, the sisters were told to remove the driver from the car. Gurlien explained that “I took out my Kirpon, which is a ceremonial dagger, and I used that to try to cut the seatbelt,” adding that “one of my neighbours brought a pair of scissors, so I used that to cut the seatbelt. At one point [the man] gasped in for air, and then he stopped responding to anything.” She concluded that “it was traumatizing,” and “we didn’t expect to see that.”
