canadians kidnapped in philippines make final urgent appealTerrorists of a separatist Islamic group in Philippines, Abu Sayyaf, have shared a grim video clip of two Canadian hostages in their captivity on Friday. The video allegedly made a “final urgent appeal” to Ottawa for saving the hostages from imminent beheading. The hostages including Calgarian expat, John Ridsdel, and Robert Hall appear to speak directly to the camera with a knife to their throat.

The video demands the Canadian government to pay the ransom within the next 10 days or have the hostages killed. In the video, Ridsdel claims that “we’re told this is the absolute final warning, the final urgent appeal to governments — Philippine, Canadian — and families,” adding that “if 300 million (Philippine pesos, or $8.3 million Canadian) is not paid for me by 3 p.m. on April 25th, they will behead me.” Thereafter, the video focuses on Hall and he repeats the same warning, urging that “my specific appeal is to the Canadian government, who I know has the capacity to get us out of here. I’m wondering what they’re waiting for.”

In addition to the two Canadian captives, the group has also kidnapped two other foreigners including a Norwegian man and a Filipino woman since almost seven months now. Although they can be seen on camera, they do not speak. At the end, the two-minute clip shows a masked gunman reiterating the deadline, warning that if it passes unheeded “we will certainly behead one of these four.”
