Bombardier Inc.’s CEO, Alain Bellemare, has recently confessed in his remarks that he’s “not pleased” with the growing delivery delays of Toronto’s new streetcars as he assured to do “whatever is required” to turn the contract around. Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) placed the order of 204 streetcars for $1.2-billion order in 2009 but the contract resulted in sheer disappointment for the city.
Bombardier did not only failed to meet its own set deadline, it reduced the number of streetcars expected from 75 in 2015 to 54 in January and then further lowered its estimate to 30 this month. Addressing reporters after the company’s annual shareholder meeting in Mirabel, Quebec, on Friday, Bellemare explained that “the situation on the train side in Toronto is a disappointing one for us. I am not pleased with where we are.”
Earlier this month, the company’s president, Raymond Bachant, left his position “to pursue other career opportunities” and Benoît Brossoit was appointed as the new president of its transportation unit’s Americas division. The former senior vice-president of operations at United Technologies Corp., Bellemare, alleged that he’s already taking charge of the situation. Bellemare stated that “he has met with the decision-makers in Toronto and we are going to complete our full analysis and we will come back to them with a recovery plan to make sure that we deliver on our commitments moving forward.”
