Prime Minister Justin Trudeau mentioned in his recent remarks that the growing criticism of the immigration policy on the part of some Canadians is relatable to the circumstances around the refugees of the Second World War. Trudeau brushed off all criticism and alleged that “there’s nothing new about this” as he responded to a query on a panel discussion on how to address the concerns being expressed about so-called “non-Canadian” values and unwillingness to integrate on the part of some foreigners, including Muslims.

Trudeau referred on Thursday to the discrimination experienced by Italian and Greek immigrants in postwar Montreal and highlighted that “there was tremendous discrimination and tremendous mistrust. There have always been challenges to the integration of newcomers into society.” Mr. Trudeau and London Mayor Sadiq Khan participated at the Global Progess international conference and pointed that “the concerns and fears people have are nothing new.” Mr. Trudeau explained that “we have successfully demonstrated that the drawing in of people from around the world has been an extraordinary plus.”

Whereas London Mayor, Mr. Khan, praised Mr. Trudeau and Canada for their prominent role in helping resettle 25,000 Syrian refugees last year. He elucidated that “you are a beacon of how a civilized country should treat those who are vulnerable and in need of help.” Moreover, Mr. Khan also commended Mr. Trudeau for establishing Canada’s first gender-balanced cabinet and confessed that “I sound like a real fanboy. It’s a bit embarrassing.”
